Easy to assemble, versatile outdoor propane grill
I’ll start off by saying that the Monument Grill 4+1 grill is a better bargain than I initially thought. The cheapest entry into the 4-burner propane grill runs just around $250 and that is not even close to what you are getting with this grill at the $400 asking price. First of all, this was probably the easiest grill to assemble that I have ever owned (and I’ve owned quite a few). Tetris-champion levels of packing prowess; everything was well protected and there was almost no chance of any parts being dented or scratched; very well done! The instructions were absolutely clear and every hole was precisely where it was supposed to be and all the screws were the correct size for the application and all parts fit precisely. My only critique in the design is they missed an opportunity to use all the same screw sizes instead of having 6 smaller screws in the build; those could have been larger and made assembly that much more straightforward while keeping manufacturing costs down as well.Materials-wise, outside of a very expensive Weber or Napoleon, you will likely be replacing your propane grill every 3-4 years, even more often if left outside in the elements or not regularly cleaning the grill. Stainless steel offers some measure of protection against this and this grill is about 50% there. The lid, front fire control panel, warming tray, and side table and burner are all stainless as well as two of the four burner’s flavorizer bars. The remaining metal is either painted or powder-coated steel, meaning you need to take extra care of it to prolong its use.Now let’s talk about the delivery – Heat-delivery, that is. This grill gets HOT and gets hot FAST. This made me greatly appreciate the insulated handle on the grill lid because this bad-boy was sitting at 500 in a matter of minutes. So far so good for the initial burn-in. The stainless steel flavorizers on the two right burners were glowing red; nice. But here is where it gets interesting…the two left standard burners (all 4 were set to high for the burn-in) were reading hotter than the infrared sear burners! A whopping 100 degrees hotter! Take-away is this: you best monitor your food until you get the hang of this grill because looks can be deceiving. To be fair, I do have to point out that while the lid is stainless, the actual grill tub is thin metal and will not last forever. Grabbing the top of the tub where the lid connects, you can easily bend the metal back and forth. The stainless side shelves are sufficient for the task, but do not be fooled into thinking they are going to support you leaning on them. Keep your expectations reasonable and you will be very pleased with this grill. To make it last as long as possible, keep it clean and keep it dry.Final note: Accessories are available and I wish it had included a few more hooks at least. Giving only two was just teasing. The Monument Grills website has a smokebox (stainless), a paper towel holder, a trashcan setup, and some other odds and end, but I’ve got my eye on the cast iron cooking plate. With the heat that this grill is able to generate, this could be a versatile flat top grill as well.

    Power broil zone is tops!
I am so happy with this Monument Mesa II 4-burner stainless steel propane gas grill! It does everything it said it would and with speed and style. First off, it was packed incredibly well with plywood boards to protect the stainless steel lid cover, along with thick styrofoam, and strong straps to prevent movement during shipment. Unpacked, the floor and side panels are a light grey, powder coat. The two door pulls are detailed glossy muscle-car red and coordinate with the red temperature gauge and other details.Had I laid out all the pieces ahead of time, it would have taken me about 30-minutes to assemble it, but everything was so well wrapped and boxed, it took me an hour all in from opening the box, removing the blue tape residue on the burner lid, to turning on the gas to cook its very first meal. It included very easy to follow, well-written, step-by-step instructions! Everything was simple to put together thanks to intuitive design and perfectly aligned, pre-drilled holes and well-labeled parts.Side note: The left shelf isn’t completely level on mine, it slopes downward by a degree or two. Also, the first thing I do when I buy anything with plastic casters, is buy larger rubber casters at the same time so I can swap them out. But, I know this is a preference many may not share. But, for me, rubber casters are a game changer, especially when using something outdoors so I can easily move things around a slatted wood deck floor to clean it. The casters provided were functionally more than enough and coordinated better color wise. What I didn’t think of ahead of time, was replacing the alloy screws with stainless screws. The provided screws threatened stripping the heads with even the slightest of hand torque but worked just fine for a one and done install! Now the best part is when this baby was ready for showtime. The broil zone, main cook station, and side burner were all in full swing doing their thing! Watch the video to see the power broil zone in action (I took the burner cover off to show the beauty of this mechanism in all its glory)! Much respect for the high-heat system, it gets super hot fast and sears a filet mignon so good it’ll make you question going out to eat. The warming rack will get a lot of use for our family and neighborhood gatherings.Monument Grills puts their customer service phone number everywhere should you have a problem and need to reach out to them, including in big bold numbers on the top of the box. I love that they put their customers first!
