A 3D Painting
I have a mid-century decor in my apartment, and so this 2-piece art set really caught my eye. I thought that these were prints, but they are actually painted and textured. So the lines on the canvas are 3D, and you can see and feel the paint strokes. It looks great! The earth tones are beautiful, and the frames are in good condition. However, the hues in the original images for the item are different from the hues I received in my paintings. I do prefer the hues of the original images more–the darkest brown is not as dark as the original image, and the cream color in the original image appears to have more yellow in the painting I received. Additionally, the strokes are not as neat as in the original images for the item. The paintings I received appear hand-painted, while the images appear more perfect– as though painted by a machine. Being that these are paintings, I understand the pricing for these items. However, with the differences I mentioned, while these are beautiful paintings, I would expect more precision for the price, and that what’s received would be exact to what’s pictured.

Smaller and cheaper than they look in the photos, but acceptable
So these paintings are fine; I hung them over my couch and they do a serviceable job filling wall space and adding texture. They are not as large as they appear in the listing photos–which would have you believe they’re three feet tall. The dimensions given are accurate, though. These are 24″ tall by 18″ wide.I think the intended artistic effect is that these should appear to be made of thick paint or clay of different colors, applied separately to a canvas, and from a distance that more or less holds up. Up close, though, it’s pretty apparent that it’s a mold or impression of a single color, with the browns painted on afterward. The effect is pretty cheap looking, and looking at it now from eight feet away in a neutrally-lit living room, it’s very obvious that the color is just hastily painted onto the texture and definitely detracts from the intended effect–especially so on the dark brown color on the top corners. For $20-30, it’d be an acceptable value for the pop of texture it can bring to a room and I’d rate it five stars, but at the price listed, it’s a fairly significant disappointment. I’m docking a star for the misrepresented quality, and a star for the misrepresented implied size.The pieces are lightweight and would easily hold in drywall on a small or medium nail, and the wall-hanging hardware is well-placed on the wooden frame, so installation is dead simple. The pieces came with drywall anchors and screws, if that’s your speed.
