    Excellent Smart Plugs
This is my review of Amazon’s Smart Plugs (2 pack)I have been using “smart” devices for a long time, and still remember all the hoops you had to jump through to get them to work properly. These plugs, only work with Alexa devices, and are as close to plug-and-play as it gets. When I ordered them, I had the option to set them up before they were delivered. I did, and when I received them and plugged them in, they were ready to go.One of the plugs, I use with a lamp that I turn on/off with voice commands, and the other, I use with a routine I wrote that turns on lights 1/2 hour before sundown, and turns them off 1/2 hour after sunrise. They work with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and although you might have a newer wireless router, most allow use at this setting. In addition, they are controlled though the Alexa app, and no other software or hubs are required. After several months, they are working without any problems.Good reliable plugs, that are easy set up. I plan on picking up a few more.

So good. Much better than the off-brand ones!
I have an Alexa and I have been using the “off-brand” smart plugs that you can get off Amazon. Honestly, those worked great in the beginning, but every time I moved or sometimes randomly if they get disconnected, it’s a pain to re-connect or sometimes they just simply fail. They’ll timeout while searching for the device and I’ve had to repeat that like 30-50 times before I lost my patience and rage-ordered this “authentic” item. I ordered with skepticism to be honest, because I figured it would be similar. But immediately, the plugs connected SO quickly and so easily that my mind was blown away. But wait there’s more – my plugs got disconnected during a power outage a couple of times. One of the plugs just automatically found its connection again and was working great with Alexa devices; the other one just needed to go through the set up stage again and reconnected within seconds. Why didn’t I just get this years ago? If you have Alexa/Echo devices and connect your plugs to make your house voice-controlled I highly recommend these smart plugs!! I don’t think I’ll ever go back to other brands again.

Create 2.4 GHz band on a 5 GHz router, then problem connecting? Here’s HELP.
If you’re connecting to a 2.4 GHz router and Amazon has your wifi password saved, Alexa does all the work and these are 5 star. But . . . the frustration connecting to 2.4 band on a dual router caused me three hours frustration and causes me to dock a star off. Here’s help for you — it’s a scandal these instructions don’t come in the box. I had two problems, first, forcing the switch to go to the 2.4 band I set up, and second, getting the password for that network to work. If either/both of those are what you need to know how to fix, skip the next paragraph and go to the numbered steps.Problem: my router only has a 5GHz band. You need to fix this first. Most 5 GHz routers will allow you to create a second (or more) band that is 2.4 GHz. You have to log in to the router’s settings with the admin credentials to do that. Since I don’t know what router you have, you’re going to have to figure that out on your own, then follow the remaining steps below to solve the connection problems that occur after.***Before starting the following, make sure the device you are using the Alexa app on for setup is connected to your 2.4 GHz wifi band***Amazon Alexa automatic set up is trying to connect to 5 GHz, plug won’t work1. Log into your Amazon account. Go to account settings, devices. At the top under “Manage Your Content and Devices” click on Preferences.2. Scroll down to Saved Network Passwords and look for Frustration-Free Setup. If it is enabled (as is likely), disable it.3. Reset the plug to factory defaults by holding in its power button until the LED on the front flashes, and start the setup process again. This time Alexa will go into the manual setup mode, will display networks in range, and you can choose your 2.4 GHz band. Hopefully, your problem is now solved. But, if Alexa now tells you the Wi-Fi password you’re entering is incorrect . . .Alexa says Wi-Fi password is incorrect1. Aarrggghh. That’s not a password, that was my frustration. Unplug the plug from the AC outlet.2. Go reboot your router. (Maybe not necessary, just telling you what worked for me.)3. Move the plug to an outlet closer to the router. (Again, maybe not necessary, just telling you what worked for me.) Hold the power button down to reset it to factory defaults.4. Now start setup in the Alexa app. This time (for me) your wifi network name(s) will not appear. At the bottom of the list that does appear, click on add a new network.5. It will prompt you to enter the network name. Type in your 2.4 GHz network name.6. If it shows “unencrypted” click on change, and select which encryption method your router is using.7. Type in your password.8. Click on continue, and, hopefully, SUCCESS!It worked for me. Good luck.

    Ziggy Let There Be Light
These plugs are great, set up routines to control lights but if I have my arms full I can still say Ziggy, turn on Bedroom or Office or whichever. Easy to set up, timer feature is great, plus it works with the app for when I’m away from home but want to check lights, etc. Compact design lets me use outlets behind furniture, too.

    Great outlet
So simple to install compared to off brand Alexa outlets. Reliable but more expensive but it’s worth it

Cheaper alternative to regular smart plug but the first one was a total dud
Needed a smart plug to connect to Alexa. I personally feel the regular Amazon smart plug is over priced when selling at the $25 normal price so opted for this Amazon Basics as a first time buyer. Well the first one I received was totally dead. No lights on at all when plugged in and could not even get the manual switch on the side to work. Completed the return process and the second one arrived and connected very easily. It seems to be fully compatable with Alexa. It is working well so far and connected and has stayed connected for over a week. Added the plug to a routine and works just as well as the more expensive plug with one slight annoyance. You can see it across the room when that basics plug is active and on with a huge green LED lit up on the front of it. I prefer the less in your face small blue light of the standard Amazon plug. I guess if the outlet was out of site it wouldn’t be an issue but it is in full view where I needed to plug it in.

Great plug! I know it is “basic” and “simple” but the set up was a breeze, and the basic design made it easy to use and figure out and revived my ottlamp that wouldn’t turn on after the external switch broke. Yay! 😁

This thing is awesome. I’ve found a few uses so far like turning the Christmas lights on and off but it’s also great for managing lights in the bedroom at night. I plug all our light emitting electronics into it and the have an automatic shut down at night so the lights don’t disrupt our sleep. Highly recommend for an easier sleep without having to remember everything.

I bought 3 of these smart plugs for my Christmas lights. They were easy to set up with Alexa, you can rename the plugs to whatever you want or keep them as is. No more struggling to get behind the Christmas tree to turn the lights on and off everyday. You can simply say the command, “Alexa turn on first plug”, or you can schedule them to turn on and off at specific times using the Alexa Home app. Now that the Christmas decor is down I am excited to find a place to repurpose these plugs in my home.
